Last Allegoricals on Canvas | previousnext

In the spring of 1995 I moved back to New Mexico (and not up the Pacific coast, which had been seriously considered). It was then I began having the tornado and water disaster dreams, which I eventually understood to be a form of deep cleansing. The bottom two pieces were the beginnings of handling paint differently; transparencies and layering employed in new ways. These and a few others were the bridge between the canvas and panel paintings, between two bodies of work.

There was also a small series of root vegetables created during this time, but I have since forgotten why. However, these were the earliest still-life type paintings presented as portrait and allegory.
