Trees and Forests
As with oil painting, I prefer to develop a relationship with each piece, even if it is over a period of days, rather than weeks or months. I am happiest layering, as I am with oils. I know when to stop, when it is enough for one day, seeing the possibilities, but still coming back another day with fresh eyes. Sometimes they need to be light and airy, and sometimes they need to have density, and I have to step back to be able to see that. Also similar to oils, I seem to prefer the square brush, and I have learned to let my watercolors be my watercolors, and not what is considered standard practice. They are unquestionably in my own artist's hand.
